Can SecretShield work with any password manager?​

SecretShield the the perfect solution to provide backup/recovery for your password manager’s Main/Master Password. That is the password that unlocks the password vault.

Via SecretShield’s trustee feature, it can also provide a means for loved ones to gain access to the vault in the event of an emergency without giving access to the main/master password today.

Is SecretShield a password manager / password vault?​

SecretShield is not a password manager / password vault. It will not automatically populate passwords into websites and applications.

SecretShield is primarily designed to recover critical sensitive information in a timely fashion, but not instantaneously. This means that when you need to recover such information, you request the recovery from your Guardians. They can verify it is really you and approve that request. If enough of them approve the request to meet the threshold, then your sensitive information will be reconstructed (restored).

SecretShield can also store a local copy of the critical sensitive information. This data will be stored fully encrypted utilizing the device's secure elements (secure enclave / TEE). As such, the data can only be decrypted and displayed on that device. Thus, that local copy data cannot be restored or decrypted on another device.

Why not use a password manager or password vault for sensitive data?​

Password managers are great for regular use passwords, but they store data in an online vault that can be compromised. SecretShield provides a safer way to store critical information, ensuring that if your password manager is compromised, your sensitive data remains secure.

For example, in 2022, LastPass was compromised exposing the encrypted vaults. Over the course of 2022 (and beyond), millions of dollars in crypto were and continue to be stolen from those vaults. LastPass was not the only password manager to be compromised.
